Plastic Surgery Unit
CHUK plastic surgery unit, is a specialized surgical service dedicated to restoring, reconstructing, and/or remodelling the human body to improve both function and appearance.
The unit handle a wide range of diseases arising from congenital defects, trauma including burns, scars and cancers
Core Services
Operating within a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care, CHUK plastic surgery unit offers the following services:
1.General reconstructive surgery: covering a wide range of reconstructive procedures, this serves to repair different defects to improve function and restore normal appearance.
2. Burn Care: Specialized treatment for acute burns and subsequent reconstructive procedures to manage scarring.
3. Oncoplastic breast surgery and breast reconstruction: Immediate or delayed reconstruction following breast cancer resection/tumorectomy, mastectomy, breast reduction, and reconstruction for congenital anomalies.
4. Skin Cancer surgery: Excision of melanomas, squamous cell carcinomas. basal cell carcinoma and soft tissue sarcomas, with complex reconstructive surgery.
5.Hand Surgery: Treatment for injuries of the hand and upper limb trauma, Dupuytren's contracture, nerve injuries and compression (e.g., carpal tunnel).
6. Congenital Anomalies: Specialized care for cleft lip, cleft palate, and other craniofacial malformations.
7. Microsurgery: Specialized techniques for tissue transfer and nerve repair
8. Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Surgery: Procedures to enhance physical appearance.
Facial Rejuvenation: Facelifts, blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts), and rhinoplasty.
Body Contouring: Tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), liposuction, and skin removal after significant weight loss.
9.Other Specialized Services:
Dressing Clinics: Specialized nursing or residents-lead wound care, removal of sutures, and post-operative reviews.
Unit Structure and Operations
•Inpatient/Outpatient Care: Units provide comprehensive care ranging from outpatients’ clinics, day surgeries to inpatient stays for major reconstructions.
•Multidisciplinary Approach: We frequently work with physiotherapists, occupational therapists (for hand therapy), psychologists, and specialists in oncology, orthopedics, and ENT.
•Emergency Service: 24/7 service coverage is available for emergency cases.
