The Urology Unit at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) provides comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and surgical care for disorders of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. The unit is committed to delivering high-quality patient-centered care, advancing medical knowledge through research, and training healthcare professionals.
Our multidisciplinary team manages both common and complex urological conditions using modern diagnostic and surgical techniques to ensure safe and effective care.
Clinical Services
The Urology Unit provides evaluation, medical management, and surgical treatment for:
- Kidney and ureteral stones
- Urinary tract infections and bladder disorders
- Prostate diseases, including benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer
- Urological cancers (kidney, bladder, prostate, and testicular cancers)
- Male infertility and reproductive health disorders
- Erectile dysfunction and male sexual health conditions
- Congenital urological abnormalities
- Urethral strictures
- Urinary incontinence
- Trauma affecting the urinary tract
Both emergency and elective procedures are performed, including open, endoscopic, and minimally invasive urological surgeries.
Training and Research
The Urology Unit actively participates in the training of medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals. The department is also engaged in clinical research aimed at improving urological care and patient outcomes.

Outpatient Services: As scheduled by appointment
Inpatient and Emergency Services: Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
