Overview
Neonatology is a department under the Maternal and Neonatology Directorate and focuses on the medical care of newborn infants, especially those who are ill or premature. At the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), newborns receive comprehensive, high-quality care from a multidisciplinary team of consultant physicians, resident doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Families are actively involved in discussions regarding each patient’s diagnosis, treatment plan, and progress.
Neonatology Services
- The Neonatology Department provides the following services:
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)
- Phototherapy Services
- Baby-Friendly Services
- Emergency Services
- Ward Clerk Services
Working Hours:
Neonatal outpatient and emergency referral services from district hospitals are available 24 hours a day.
Obstetrics Services
The department has a long tradition of providing excellence in obstetrical care, teaching, and research. Our multidisciplinary healthcare team is dedicated to meeting the evolving medical needs of women by promoting and maintaining their health through routine checkups, screening programs, general obstetrical care, and specialized services, while also advancing the knowledge and skills of obstetrics among students and residents.

Working Hours
Outpatient: Every day from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Inpatient and Emergency Services: Available 24 hours a day.
