Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine is committed to medical excellence in the care of patients, the education of students, and the pursuit of clinical and basic research. 

INTERNAL MEDICINE CHUK

The Department of Internal Medicine consists of five (05) inpatient units with a 88 bed capacity (Ward 3: 24 beds, Ward 4: 24, Ward 6: 10, Izere: 20 beds, Pavilion Generale 10). We also offer ambulatory care through general and specialized consultations as well as outpatients’ procedures such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, ERCP, Cardiac imaging, transthoracic echography, fibroscans

 and Dialysis. 

For years, the department of Internal has excelled in clinical care, research, and education. That rich history teaches us to respect tradition and to strive for greater innovation and discovery.

The diversity in our department’s areas of expertise spans the fields of:

  • Cardiology:

It involves the diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiovascular system (heart and vascular system). Cardiology unit work 5 days of OPD and daily inpatient care. 

  • Endocrinology

It focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of problems associated with endocrine system (glandular) and metabolic disorders. It is fully active and has 4 fulldays of OPD by endocrinology specaialists with daily inpatient care. 

  • Gastroenterology:

It focuses on diagnosing and treating disorders related to gastrointestinal tract, which includes esophagus, stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, small intestine, colon and rectum. The unit is functional daily.

  • Hematology:

It deals with the disorders related to the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system. Limited to only OPD and Bone marrow procedures.

  • Infectious diseases:

This sub-specialty focuses on diagnosing and treating various infections, which include viral, bacterial, parasitic and fungal infections.

  • Nephrology:

This sub-specialty focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of Kidney diseases including hemodialysis services. Functional and has expanded and works daily with daily dialysis. 

  • Oncology:

It focuses on diagnosing and so far we treat some few types of cancers.

  • Pulmonary disease:

It involves the diagnosis and treatment of those disorders related to the respiratory system, which includes lungs, thoracic cavity, upper airways and chest wall.

  • Rheumatology:

This sub-specialty focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases of joints and muscles.

Dermatology:

This sub-specialty focuses on diagnosing and treating skin diseases.
